Ikigai is a Japanese method that refers to the reason for your existence or what makes you get out of bed in the morning. It’s a philosophy that helps people find their purpose.

It is where four important aspects come together:

1. What you love ( passion and mission)

2. What you’re good at (passion and profession)

3. What the world needs (mission and vocation)

4. What you can get paid for (vocation and profession). Usually, that’s not the hardest part.

When these four elements are in balance, you’ve found your Ikigai: a meaningful and fulfilling life, it’s as easy as that.

3. Evaluate the value you can provide

Ikigai is also about making a difference in the world. Ask yourself questions such as:

• How can I use these passions to help others?

• What is needed in the world that matches my passions?

4. Experiment and combine

5. Focus on what energizes you

Pay attention to which activities really energizes and fulfill you. You can have multiple passions, but some will fulfill you more than others; let those guide you.

6. Embrace your versatility

You don’t have one Ikigai. It is possible to do multiple things that give you joy, as long as you find a so balance that works. For example, you may have a job that aligns with one passions, and a hobby that aligns with another one.

7. Reflect regularly

Your Ikigai can evolve as you grow and develop new interests, Keep asking yourself what gives you satisfaction, what you do well, and how you can help others.
