Step 1: Set Clear & Specific Goals
Use the ‘SMART’ method. It stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound.
Pick 2 dates: one end-date and one halfway-date. That way you can adjust anything immediately if need be.
Pick 3 habits you want to implement in your daily life to help you get where you want to be in life.
If your goals are ‘SMART’, it means that you can take note immediately if necessary.
Step 2: Develop A Routine & Stick To It
Imagine never struggling with discipline ever again… The key? Routines and systems.
Routines are so important in our everyday life, because it is what builds structure. I don’t even have to think about anything, I just do. It has become automatic. That’s because of systems.
If you want to implement habits, combine one with what you like doing on a regular basis.
You don’t have to have tens of routines. Just one or a few that will intertwine.
Step 3: Harness Dopamine
Your brain loves small wins, so do them as much as possible. It could be checking off to-do lists, checking off habit trackers, …
But your brain hates consequences too. So journal to track where you’re slacking, … It is a mild form of tough love, but still keeps its efficiency.
Step 4: Curate Your Environment
Make sure your environment, digitally and in reality, is aligned with your current goals.
Step 5: Practice Mind-fullness & Stress Management
The goal of discipline isn’t making it hard and miserable for you. The goal is to create a better life for yourself. You know what is hard and miserable? Waking up feeling like you aren’t showing up for yourself, or showing yourself the respect you need to make decisions that align with your goals.
