Step 11: Get Comfortable With The Discomfort
Start with the journey. As you step outside of your comfort zone, you will start to feel uncomfortable. This will be a pivotal moment, where you’ll have to choose to push through the discomfort to achieve your goals. One day, you will feel comfortable enough with being uncomfortable.
Step 12: Give Yourself Though Love
Don’t give yourself too much grace. This might sound controversial, because I’m all about self-love. But I do believe that giving yourself too much grace might actually hinder your journey.
Let me explain. While I do believe giving yourself grace is essential, it can be taken too far. Yes, when you don’t achieve your goals, you’ll have to reflect. Maybe it’s because the timing wasn’t realistic, or life came creeping in and you had a burn-out, or whatever. But while it may have happened because of x, y, or z, you have to take accountability for it, and actually change the things that are hindering your growth. If the timing wasn’t right, change it. If the mindset wasn’t right, change it. If the environment wasn’t right, change it.
Step 13: Increase Slowly
Don’t try to go from 0 to 100% overnight. Start implementing easy habits, and increase slowly.
If the goal is to be in shape, don’t start with running. Go for a walk around your house, and that might be enough for a while. If you’ll want to increase, go for a walk around the block. Then move on to running in your street, then go on to a run around the block, then some time longer. Before you know it, you’ll run a marathon.
Even if i’s the smallest step you can take, do it guilt-free. You’re already outdoing everyone who does nothing.
Step 14: Shift Your Identity
Shift your identity to align with your goals. Because habits all start in the brain, with beliefs, the very core of your identity.
